Rained Out Through the Weekend
We were not able to work this weekend due to heavy rain. It rained all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which meant that it was too wet to work on the foundation Monday.

First Footings Poured
We started pouring the footings this afternoon. We were able to place the steel in the entire left side of the exterior footings and inspect it. We then subsequently poured this side.
The footings were inspected by the city, the steel was inspected by the architect and the site testing company, and the footing bearing capacity was tested by the site testing agency.

Footings Started
We started digging footings today. The crew arrived this morning and batter boards were quickly erected and the digging started. We started in the rear near the baptismal font and worked towards the front. We will have to pour the footings in several different pours, since the footings are at different depths and because of possible rain next week.

Form Boards On Site, Concrete To Start Soon
Now that the soil has dried out a little, we have passed our soil compaction tests and can proceed with concrete. The forms were delivered yesterday and the equipment and workers will arrive tomorrow to start work.

The site contractor finished the ponds and installed the stone around the drain outlets.

The area where the pavilion is to be made has had the poor soils beneath it cut out and relocated. It is ready for engineered fill to be brought in an placed in lifts up to grade.

Pad waiting to dry out
After having removed the surcharge, we kept rolling the pad. We were not able to achieve compaction though, due to too much moisture being present in the soil.
As soon as we can get the moisture out of the pad we can continue with the foundation.
The video below shows that the pad is pumping under the weight of the roller.

Building corners were also set by the surveyors.

Started Stripping Surcharge Material
Today we were able to start stripping the surcharge material from the building pad again following Tuesday's rain. The material was still wet, but we were able to remove about half of it and clear the pad for the concrete crew coming Monday.
We were not able to compact the material since it was still too wet, but hopefully will be able to do so tomorrow as the material dries out.

And Let There Be Light!
Surcharge Stripping Delayed by heavy rains

We were scheduled to strip the 2' of surcharge material from the building pad today, but could not due to heavy rains. After waiting a month, we are now able to remove the extra material placed on the building pad designed to speed up any settling under the building that may take place.
We received almost an inch of rain just as we started working. The long down pour will unfortunately delay the work for a couple of days, since the muddy conditions will not allow dump trucks on site to haul the material to other areas on site.
